The National Institute of Statistical Sciences Seeks an Associate Director

The National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) seeks an energetic,talented statistical scientist to serve as Associate Director, and to play a central role in pursuit of the NISS mission to identify, foster and catalyze high-impact cross-disciplinary research involving the statistical sciences. The Associate Director will help shape the future of NISS in all respects --science, professional development and service to the statistical sciences and other scientific communities.

The position presents two unique opportunities. The first is to play a major role in making the NISS Affiliates Program (see www.niss.org/affiliates/affiliatesmain.html) a jewel among NISS activities. This role includes proposing, securing funding for, implementing and leading affiliate-stimulated research. The second is close interaction with the newly formed Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) (see www.samsi.info). However, the position can be structured flexibly, to match particular strengths and interests.

Necessary background and skills include strong capabilities for organization and communication, breadth in the statistical sciences, and the capability to transform data-driven problems to research proposals and programs. A Ph.D. or Sc.D. in the statistical or mathematical sciences is required. We encourage all qualified applicants and, to complement current NISS research activities, are particularly interested in individuals with knowledge of and experience in the biosciences, bioinformatics, health or medicine.

The Associate Directorship can be filled on either a permanent or term (at least two years) basis. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. An accompanying faculty appointment at one of the Research Triangle universities can be arranged if desired and appropriate.
