Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Senior Director is to provide guidance and direction to multiple Therapeutic Areas (TA) of the Global Biostatistics and Programming Department (GB&P). This includes resource allocation, recruitment and hiring, process improvement initiatives, procedures for maintaining a high level of collaboration with our clients, and technical and project related oversight for high priorities. The Senior Director will interact frequently with collaborators in GCT, Regulatory, key external leaders within academia, regulatory agencies and the industry, and Project management. The incumbent will participate on the Global Biostatistics & Programming Leadership Team and serve on various governance bodies in place of the VP/AVP of Biostatistics as needed.

Job Responsibilities

*Coordinates clinical statistical and statistical programming support activities for TAs in GB&P, including allocation of resources, ensuring that appropriate administrative mechanisms are in place for monitoring project activity, overseeing the scheduling of projects, and monitoring the project status.

*Oversees the development and status of collaborative research projects. Provides high level of technical supervision and training to staff on the design, analysis and, reporting of experiments.

*Reviews documents as required to assure statistical validity and conformance to statistical aspects of SOP’s, guidelines, and regulations

*Oversees activities in statistical software development and automation of projects.

*Keeps informed of developments in new statistical methodology and statistically related guidelines and regulations. Actively participates via various industry forums in the review of guidelines, provide expert input and help influence the direction of the guidelines and methodologies within the industry and the regulatory environment globally.

*Performs associated administrative duties.

Basic Qualifications

*Masters Degree, preferably with a Biostatistics, Statistics or related field major.
*13 years of related experience with a Doctorate Degree or 17 years of related experience with a Masters Degree.
*Demonstrated track record of technical accomplishments and leadership within pharmaceutical or related industry R&D.
*Experience in researching and applying statistical methods for pharmaceutical applications, i.e., clinical and nonclinical trials.
*Significant leadership and/or people management experience.
*Excellent written and oral communication abilities.

Job Description:
The Statistics and Epidemiology Unit of RTI International seeks a Senior Survey Statistician for design, analysis and management of complex surveys. Individual will supervise statistical staff and have responsibility for technical and fiscal management of significant projects. Duties also include development of statistical methodologies, research opportunities, strategic plans, and proposals. Strong knowledge of sampling design, nonresponse adjustment, weighting, imputation, and analysis of data from complex sample surveys is required.

The Senior Survey Statistician position is also responsible for the scientific integrity of work products for contracts under their supervision. Working in a research unit with responsibility for cross-contract coordination, the Senior Survey Statistician is primarily responsible for study design (research methodology) and deployment of statistical approaches, feasibility assessment, sampling, and the overall reliability and validity of the processes employed.

The successful candidate is expected to play an independent leadership role in developing relationships, interacting with and working with external clients, bringing new technologies and approaches to quality improvement, delivering technical presentations and attending client meetings.

Our Senior Statisticians are responsible for assuring the validity of all work products generated by the analytic team. Originality in hypothesis generation, sound statistical approaches, communication and interpersonal leadership skills are critical to successful performance.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Providing sample design as it relates to methodological considerations to research staff members on complex projects and proposals.
• Define universe and specify the appropriate sample frame and sample size for complex surveys.
• Specify and review demographic research using Census, government statistics, and other sources.
• Specify weighting method appropriate for analysis and reporting and oversee the implementation of weighting adjustments.
• Develop innovative sampling designs as wells as innovative statistical analysis procedures.
• Prepare sampling and weighting methodology write-up for proposals and project reports.
• Determine and implement general analysis strategies and specific statistical techniques appropriate for the sample design and suitable for the analytical goals.
• Assist with training junior staff.
• Provide an estimate of the time to perform any particular task required.
• Interact with the research staff in the design and implementation of the sampling and weighting plan.
• Interact with outside suppliers of statistical information, as well as sample providers and e-Panel vendors.
• Ability to read written texts, produce written documents, and convey complex sampling and weighting concepts to others.
• Write technical reports suitable for peer-reviewed journals analyzing the survey methodology and the substantive results.

Qualifications:
• PhD degree with 10 or more years of experience (or equivalent) developing statistical design and analysis procedures for major survey research projects.
• Ability to understand and conduct all surveys requiring complex sampling and weighting methods.
• Expertise with demographic sources in the US and International countries (Census, Current Population Survey, Federal government statistics).
• Data file management and manipulation through various software packages (i.e. SAS, SPSS, Excel).

Desired Skills:
• Candidate must have excellent writing, leadership, communication, and organizational skills; and demonstrated publication record. Experience in contract research is a plus.

AT&T Statistics Research, as a direct descendant of the Bell Labs Statistics Group, has a long history dating back to Walter Shewhart's invention of control charts, and John Tukey's pioneering work in theoretical statistics and data analysis. The Statistics Research group currently has 11 researchers from a diverse set of fields, including mining of massive data streams, data visualization, probability theory, Bayesian analysis, sampling theory, and machine learning. Our work is highly inter-disciplinary, and we work closely with our colleagues who work in databases, speech technology, networking, marketing, and many other fields.

1. Research Statistician

2. Data Mining and Statistical Analysis Expert

The Information and Software Systems Lab is seeking a Data Mining professional with experience in the telecommunications or related industry, with a statistical / analytical academic background and hands-on problem solving abilities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to identify needs and formulate solutions, with a strong attention to detail. Candidates must be self-motivated with strong communication, writing and teamwork skills and be comfortable analyzing a wide range of information across many business units. Communication and collaboration skills are crucial, and the applicant should be capable of providing presentation-quality project status updates and results. Initial projects include target market model building for customer cross / up sell, retention, acquisition and segmentation as well as network engineering studies for estimating current traffic levels and future growth of network loads.

Required Skills:
- MS or PhD in Statistics or Data Mining
- 5+ years experience in applying analytic techniques to solve business challenges
- Experience in data visualization, data cleansing, response model building, testing and evaluation
- Proficient with linear / logistic regression, decision trees, neural networks, market basket analysis, clustering, time series analysis, and web traffic analysis
- Experience with large data sets


Desired Skills:
- Experience with Unix and PC SAS, Enterprise Miner, S-Plus, Insightful Miner, MS Access
- Familiar with DM processes of CRISP-DM and / or SEMMA
- Six Sigma knowledge
- Experience with third party data such as D&B or Harte-Hanks

 

 

Florida State University
Faculty Position in Computational Statistics

The School of Computational Science ( http://www.scs.fsu.edu) at Florida State University seeks candidates for a faculty position in computational statistics starting in Fall 2007. Tenure-track status will be held in the Department of Statistics ( http://www.stat.fsu.edu) or another appropriate department.

A Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, or a related field is required and multidisciplinary postdoctoral experience is highly desired. The successful candidate is expected to participate in MS/PhD degree programs in both Computational Science and their associated department, to be involved in course development in computational statistics, to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and to have an active research program including the supervision of student research. Excellent opportunities for collaboration exist within the SCS and the Department of Statistics as well as with many other centers, institutes, and departments on the FSU campus. Candidates with proven expertise in algorithmic development for large-scale scientific computing for statistics-related problems are encouraged to apply.
