Avaya is a global leader in enterprise communications systems, providing unified communications, contact centers, and related services directly and through its channel partners.  Enterprises of all sizes depend on Avaya for state-of-the-art communications that improve efficiency, collaboration, customer service and competitiveness.  Most of the technical professionals in the R&D community work within Avaya’s business units.  A small central group, Avaya Labs Research, has built up a track record of moving leading-edge technology into products and services.  Pictured here is the Data Analysis Research Department.  The group pursues applied research in data analysis technology that is shaped by important, real-world applications within Avaya.  A general focus is that of data-driven research that has a real business impact.  Goals include incorporating the best data analysis technology into Avaya's systems, products, and internal use, along with presenting the work to the research community through publications and talks.  Technical interests in the department encompass: statistics, broadly defined including data analysis, theory, methods, computing and visualization; associated areas of computer networking and computer science, e.g. data bases, machine learning, testing, and expert systems; and queueing theory and simulation.
