3. APDF. The announcement for the 2004 NISS Affiliates and NISS/SAMSI University Affiliates Proposal Development Fund (APDF) is now available at

Proposals for awards effective during the academic year 2005–06, are due on June 1, 2004. Awards will be announced at the NISS/SAMSI JSM Reception in August, 2004.

4. SAMSI PROGRAMS FOR 2004-05. SAMSI will conduct three programs next year:

• Computational Biology of Infectious Diseases (Fall 2004 - Spring 2005)
  
  
• Latent (Hidden) Variable Models in the Social Sciences (Fall 2004 - Spring 2005)
  
  
• Data Assimilation for Geophysical Systems (Spring 2005)

5. CO-SPONSORED EVENTS. Affiliates reimbursement accounts (ARAs) may be used to attend events co-sponsored by NISS, including:

• 2004 QPRC: 2004 Quality & Productivity Research Conference (May 19-21, Raleigh, NC), also sponsored by SAS, the Quality and Productivity Section of the ASA and other organizations
