NISS/SAMSI University Affiliates Program

Update: July 2004

1. 2005 IS THE YEAR OF THE AFFILIATE. As laid out in the NISS strategic vision 2005 is designated the "Year of the Affiliate." The program will be five years old in March of 2005. While there is strong momentum in its membership and activities, this is a good time to take stock, and to ensure that the program continues to develop in the right directions. Plans include visits to as many affiliates as possible, increasing the number and diversity of corporate affiliates and NISS/SAMSI university affiliates, and a NISS-affiliates "compact" articulating the value provided by NISS to the affiliates, the expectations of the affiliates and the ways in which NISS and the affiliates will work together to make the program a success.

The initial presentation about "Year of the Affiliate" will be at the August 8 affiliates JSM lunch.

3. SAMSI PROGRAMS FOR 2004-05. SAMSI will conduct three programs next year:

- Latent (Hidden) Variable Models in the Social Sciences (Fall 2004 - Spring 2005)

- Data Assimilation for Geophysical Systems (Spring 2005)
