NISS/SAMSI University Affiliates Program

Update: May 2005

1. 2005 APDF. Reminder: applications are due on Friday, June 24. Information is at http://www.niss.org/affiliates/apdf/apdf.html . The award(s) will be announced at the NISS/SAMSI JSM reception on August 8.

2. ANNUAL MEETING FORMAT. You should all have received notification of the new format for the affiliates annual meeting, which will increase dramatically the geographical presence of NISS and the engagement of affiliates. Starting next year, the meeting will become mobile in both space and time. Instead of being held at NISS on the first Thursday and Friday of March, it will be held at an affiliate site sometime during March of each year.

The goals are to provide affiliates

A unique opportunity for visibility and publicity, by hosting an event that draws attendees from the entire set of affiliates;
Explicit input into defining the focus of the "day one" part of the program, which has traditionally been scientific.

The host also has the opportunity to showcase local talent, and for those in the host organization to interact with the full set of attendees.

REMINDER: If you're interested in hosting the 2006 meeting, you should:

Read the document that accompanied the announcement.
Talk to your colleagues, and come up with possible dates and an idea for day one.
