3. NISS AFFILIATES DATA CONFIDENTIALITY WORKING GROUP. The data confidentiality working group that met throughout the past year under the auspices of the SAMSI 2005-06 program on National Defense and Homeland Security continues this year as an activity of the NISS DG project and the NISS affiliates program. The group meetings weekly at 9:15 AM Eastern time on Tuesdays, via a combination of teleconference and the WebEx web collaboration tool. Anyone interested in joining the group or just being added to the mailing list, please let me know.

4. JOURNAL OF PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY. I am pleased to announce that the new Journal of Privacy and Confidentiality (JPC) is now operational, under the editorship of John M. Abowd (Cornell), Kobbi Nissim (Ben Gurion University, Israel) and Chris Skinner (University of Southampton, UK), with an international board of associate editors. The founders of JPC are Cynthia Dwork (Microsoft Research), Stephen Fienberg (Carnegie Mellon) and me.

JPC is an open-access multi-disciplinary electronic journal whose purpose is to facilitate the coalescence of research methodologies and activities in the areas of privacy, confidentiality, and disclosure limitation. It is dedicated to prompt review and publication of manuscripts. The first issue is expected in early 2007. For more information, see the JPC webpage: http://jpc.cylab.cmu.edu.

5. SURVEY COST WORKSHOP REPORT. A report/white paper arising from the April 18-19 Survey Cost Workshop in Washington will be available by October 6 on the affiliates web site, at http://www.niss.org/affiliates/surveycost200604/surveycost-workshop200604.html
