the Visiting Lecturer Program in Statistical Science

A Typical Visit and Program

We are reviewing the Program and have enlisted speakers who have volunteered to participate. The aim of the SLVP is to have volunteers visit colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada in order to stimulate and enhance undergraduate student interest in statistics. This site lists statisticians who have agreed to participate in the SLVP. Also listed are the titles of their lectures. The lecturers are from a wide spectrum of the statistical community and represent many diverse fields of application. The topics have been specially chosen to be timely, not technical, and to interest students and faculty.

A typical visit is to arrange for a full day of activities. The visiting lecturer would be expected to give a seminar/colloquium as well as being invited to scheduled classes. Time should be set aside to meet with interested students as well as to discuss curriculum issues with faculty. Depending on location, the visiting lecturer would arrive the night before and arrange to arrive early in the morning.

Expenses: COPSS will pay for half of the expenses and the host institution will pay for the remaining half.
