Project Update - August, 2000
1. GEOGRAPHICAL AGGREGATION. The NASS prototype is nearing completion. Issues regarding map displays are the principal remaining obstacle.
2. STATISTICAL CONSEQUENCES OF GEOGRAPHICAL AGGREGATION. Work on the manuscript "Analysis of Aggregated Data in Survey Sampling, with Application to Fertilizer/Pesticide Usage Surveys," led by ex-NISS postdoc Jaeyong Lee (now at Penn State), is continuing.
3. TABLE SERVERS. Work on risk evaluation and reduction is continuing, on multiple fronts, centered at NISS (A. Karr, A. Saalfeld [OSU] and A. Sanil, with assistance from L. Cox [EPA] and J. Pittman [NISS postdoc]), CMU (A. Dobra, G. Duncan and S. Fienberg, and new participants S. Roehring and A. Moore) and LANL (S. Keller-McNulty, with visits by G. Duncan). Construction of a working prototype table server at a serious scale is the highest priority of the software development side of the project over the next six months.
4. BRIEFING. A briefing to partner agencies (and interested others) is being scheduled. The most likely data and location are October 17, 2000, at BLS.
5. ADVISORY COMMITTEE. Plans are underway for an initial meeting of the project advisory council (M. David, S. Nusser, S. Cohen, C. House, M. McMillen, A. Zarate, L. Zayatz) sometime this fall.
6. JSM TALKS. Two talks on project activities
