Digital Government:
Project Update - December 2002
1. PUBLICATIONS. Completed recently:
Accepted for publication:
Appeared in print:
Copies are, or soon will be, on the project Web site.
2. POSTDOCTORAL APPOINTMENTS. NISS has project needs and funds to make at
least three postdoctoral appointments between now and next summer. Areas
include digital government, software engineering, Web site analysis and
bioinformatics. Involvement with SAMSI 2003-04 programs on Data Mining &
Machine Learning, Internet Traffic and Multiscale Modeling is possible.
Please make students and young colleagues aware of these wonderful opportunities.
Information and a downloadable announcement are available on the NISS Web
site, at http://www.niss.org/postdoc_info.html
3. AIM WORKSHOP ON COMPUTATIONAL ALGEBRAIC STATISTICS. Together with Jesus A. De Loera (UC Davis), Stephen Fienberg, Serkan Hosten (San Francisco State) and Bernd Sturmfels (UC Berkeley), I am a co-organizer of a workshop on "Computational Algebraic Statistics" to be held at the AIM Research Conference Center (ARCC) of the American Institute of Mathematics (Palo Alto, CA) on December 14-18, 2003.
The workshop will focus on a new synthesis of computational algebraic geometry and statistics in the context of multidimensional contingency tables, with particular attention to data security and disclosure limitation. Topics include statistical problems in loglinear and graphical models, computational problems about Markov and Grobner bases, combinatorial issues, computing Grobner bases, counting lattice points in polytopes, and optimally disseminating massive data while preserving confidentiality. There will be both invited participants and those selected from applications to the AIM.
Within a short time additional information will be available at
http://www.aimath.org/ARCC/workshops/compalgstat.html
