NISS Affiliates Win 2005 SPAIG Award

The NISS Affiliates have received the 2005 SPAIG Award of the American Statistical Association (ASA). The award was presented at the Joint Statistics Meetings in Minneapolis.
The Statistical Partnerships Among Academe, Industry and Government (SPAIG) Award was established by the ASA in 2002 to recognize outstanding partnerships established between academe and business, industry, and government organizations, and to promote new partnerships. Unlike other ASA awards, the SPAIG Award recognize organizations rather than individuals.
A plaque presented to NISS will hang in our building. The citation reads: "For collaborations among these organizations [the affiliates] through NISS programs leading to the dissemination of advanced statistical methods to corporate and federal agencies and communication of applied problems generated by those organizations to academic researchers. This award is presented in recognition of excellence with the SPAIG concept."
The communication and collaborations noted in the citation have been central to the program since its inception. I am pleased, and I hope you will be too, to receive this recognition from the ASA.
