The Department of Statistics and Data Science at The University of Missouri was established in 1961 and, since then, the Department’s faculty have been recognized internationally for their contributions to statistical theory, methodology, and applications. The general strengths of the Department include Bayesian statistics, spatio-temporal statistics, official statistics and survey methodology, biostatistics and bioinformatics, computational statistics, environmental and ecological statistics, statistical deep learning, and statistical machine learning. These research areas allow the Department’s faculty to closely collaborate with scientists working in a variety of different disciplines. Additionally, faculty from the Department lead two research centers in the College of Arts and Science at MU – the Center for Spatio-Temporal Statistics and AI as well as the Center for Applied Statistics and Data Analysis. The Department offers the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Ph.D. in Statistics.
