NISS is saddened to learn of the death of Susie Bayarri on August 19, 2014. Susie was a long-time friend and collaborator of NISS, as well as a participant in several SAMSI programs. She visited both institutes frequently. Susie was PI on the NSF-funded, multi-institution NISS project " Prediction and Risk of Extreme Events Utilizing Mathematical Computer Models of Geophysical Processes," which arose from the 2006-07 SAMSI program on Development, Assessment and Utilization of Complex Computer Models. She also worked on NISS projects on computer model evaluation funded by General Motors. Alan Karr, NISS director, said, "Susie was a deep thinker combined with a marvelously cheery personality. We will all miss her."
