The Department of Statistics seeks to fill at least one open rank tenured / tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research, teaching and service missions of the department. Candidates with expertise in all research areas of statistics are encouraged to apply. The appointment will be at a level commensurate with the applicant’s experience. Senior applicants must specify the desired appointment rank in their cover letter.

Performance Objectives

Conduct original research in statistics 

Contribute to the teaching mission of the department at the undergraduate and graduate levels 

Contribute to the service mission of the department

Education and Experience Requirements 

Required: Completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Statistics or related field by the start of employment. A commitment to a career-long program of forward-looking, innovative research in statistics. A commitment to the development and delivery of high quality courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants at the Associate or Full rank must have established a record of excellence in research, mentorship, teaching, and service.    

Desired: At the Assistant rank, a strong record of training in statistics. At the Associate or Full rank, a strong record of internal and external service.  At the Associate or Full rank, a record of funding commensurate with research area.  For all ranks, a research program that complements our current faculty.

A competitive application consists of the following required elements: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, three letters of reference, and a transcript for those who have not yet received a PhD or who received a PhD within the past three years.   • Attachment 3: Research Statement: Summary of your past research accomplishments, current work/research, and proposal for your future research plan as a faculty member. 
  • Attachment 4: Teaching Statement: A statement of your approach, experience and philosophy regarding teaching, learning, and mentoring. 
  • Attachment 5: Transcript (only for applicants who received their PhD in 2022 or more recently or who have not yet received their PhD).

The Department of Statistics in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks applications for one or more Lecturers to teach undergraduate and/or graduate course(s). Please read the description below and reach out to Search Chair Dr. Michelle Everson (everson.50@osu.edu) with any questions.

Duties include but are not limited to: leading synchronous classes and/or creating pre-recorded videos; holding office hours; creating and grading assignments and submitting grades; may participate in course materials development, curriculum development, course coordination and may assign and oversee the work of teaching assistants.  Courses may be taught in person on the University’s Columbus campus and/or online. Successful applicants must reside in Ohio during their employment. The Department of Statistics is actively recruiting undergraduate Student Instruction Assistants for Autumn 2025. Please read the description below and reach out to Dr. Deborah Rumsey-Johnson (rumsey@stat.osu.edu) with any questions.

The Department of Statistics is seeking enthusiastic undergraduate students with a strong foundation in statistics coursework to join our team as instructional assistants for introductory statistics courses.

Responsibilities may include:

- Assisting students during recitations

- Providing feedback on written assignments

- Tutoring students individually or in small groups

- Performing other course-related duties as needed
